th meeting, but had to cancel because of a death in his family. Dr. Bewsey has addressed our group before and we were looking forward to his presentation as he is always thorough in his coverage of whatever topic he addresses.

We met in our small groups for the first hour and then after our refreshment time it was decided to adjourn our meeting and just enjoy a time of general conversation. Many people stayed in the room afterwards to talk with each other.

Our speaker for the November 17

th meeting will be Dr. Michael Veeder from Illinois Cancer Care in Peoria and he will address the topic of Genetic Profiling For Cancer. Dr. Veeder is always a good presenter and it’s obvious that he is very informed as to future treatment for cancer. He last spoke to our group in March of 2009 and mentioned two studies from The News England Journal of Medicine which followed men for a ten year period to see whether or not screening made a difference. He spoke of how researchers have learned that the DNA in cancer cells have a switch and they are experimenting with procedures to either turn on or off a particular switch that may be able to control the cancer. With all that is being done through researching cancer, Dr. Veeder’s presentation should be particularly enlightening.
