March marks our 18
th year meeting as an Us TOO Chapter. In fact, we’ve been meeting in the same room for all of these years.
Dr. Tom Rashid spoke to our group on January 25
th. He spoke about his favorite treatment for prostate cancer; High Dose Radiation with a combination of external beam therapy. He uses the high dose to deliver a "punch" to the cancer and then adds a "jab" with the external beam to finish it off.
He then addressed the many questions that came from the almost 40 people who were in attendance. Dr. Tom always seems to draw a good crowd at our meetings and he seems to enjoy the dialogue that happens as a result of his being there.
We had 4 newly diagnosed men at our meeting and they all expressed appreciation for the openness of the small group time and Dr. Rashid’s presentation.
Dr. Joseph Banno will be sharing about a new treatment for erectile dysfunction at our meeting on March 22
nd. Dr. Banno was present at our first meeting in 1993 and always is a welcomed presenter with great information.
On May 24th, we will welcome Dr. Dwayne McQuitty to our group. This will be Dr. McQuitty’s debut presentation to us.
On July 26th, we will hear from Dr. Kelly Bewsey. Dr. Bewsey has spoken to our group a few times and always does a great job.
On September 27th, Steve Tompkins from Central DuPage Hospital Proton Center in Warrenville, Illinois will speak to our group about Proton Beam Therapy. There has always been much interest in our group about this treatment for cancer and this will be the first time we have had a representative from one of the nine proton centers currently treating.
Our meeting in November will be held on the 15
th in order to not interfere with anyone’s Thanksgiving plans.
You’ll want to mark these dates on your planner in order to take advantage to the helpful information that we have worked hard to provide for our group. If there are particular topics that you would like to see addressed, please contact us and we will do our best to make it happen.
